Apiary Studio

This project was a submittal for an international design competition that solicited proposals for converting an abandoned lot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago into a productive community garden that incorporated various programatic elements outlined in the competition brief. We proposed a network of community-based, public nursery spaces that would convert abandoned urban lots into productive use, thus generating local green jobs skills and expanding green space and habitat area in a neighborhood that was extremely under-forested and characterized by neglect and high crime rates. We believe strongly that working landscapes are some of the most beautiful spaces to behold and that horticultural “work” can be a rewarding form of recreation.
